How to Delete Pages From a PDF

5 min read · Updated 2026-10-12

Scanned PDFs are full of junk pages: blank backsides, the scanner's test page, that one page that scanned twice. And plenty of documents just have sections you don't want to share.

Deleting pages is the fastest cleanup there is — see every page as a thumbnail, click the ones to remove, download the clean version. Seconds, not minutes. Free.

Here's a mindset shift: deleting pages isn't destroying information, it's editing. A 40-page scan with 12 blank backsides isn't a 40-page document — it's a 28-page document wearing a disguise. Trimming it is just honesty.

Step 1: See every page

Drop the file into the Delete Pages tool. Thumbnails show you everything at a glance — the blank pages and duplicates jump out immediately.

Step 2: Mark and delete

Click the pages to remove, review your selection (deletion is permanent in the output), and download. The original file is never touched, so mistakes cost you nothing.

Step 3: Sanity-check the result

Skim the cleaned PDF: page order intact, nothing important missing. Pay special attention to double-sided scans where the 'blank' page might have faint text on it.

What to delete (and what to keep)

Delete: blank pages, duplicates, draft pages, test scans. Keep: anything you're unsure about — storage is cheap, regret is expensive. When in doubt, keep the page.

The blank-page audit

Go through with thumbnails zoomed out: you're looking for pure white pages, scanner calibration sheets, and accidental duplicates. In a typical scanned stack, 10–20% of pages are deletable. That's real size savings too.

Splitting vs. deleting: pick right

Deleting removes pages from the output; splitting extracts pages into a new file. Want a shorter version AND keep the full original? Split out what you need instead of deleting from a copy.

Common questions

Can I undo after downloading?
The downloaded file is final, but your original is untouched — just redo it correctly. Nothing is lost.
Can I delete a page range?
Yes — select consecutive pages via thumbnails or type the range, whichever is faster for the job.
Will page numbers update?
No. If your document has printed page numbers, deleting pages creates gaps (1, 2, 5, 6). That's normal — the numbers are part of the page content.
Can I recover deleted pages?
From the downloaded file, no. From your original file, yes — it's never modified. Keep originals.
Will bookmarks survive?
Bookmarks pointing to deleted pages may break or shift. For heavily bookmarked documents, check the outline after cleaning.
